Llama Fest 2005
@ 2005-07-16 - 15:03:06I had a much more startling realisation this morning than the fact that three more UK soldiers were killed in a roadside bombing in Iraq, or that people had been queuing for Potter 6 for over two days. What I found, as I was sifting through the nearly worthless junk mail folder of my msn account, was that the eleventh annual Llama Fest is happening today in lovely Spanish Fork, Utah.
A couple of years ago I managed to check it out after seeing a poster at university (which apparently was later torn down by a hysterical professor claiming that the Fest was turning people to the dark side). While, I’ll admit, the llama races were a bit over hyped (I guess they don’t really run), I had a fantastic time wandering around the Hari Krishna temple, eating some rather exotic food, listening to a live Brazilian band, and checking out a bunch of cool looking llamas. It was well worth the $3 and bit of my Saturday to check it out, and maybe I’ll do it again next time I’m not living in the UK.
What made this morning’s little discovery even cooler was learning that if you volunteer for an hour and a half, you get a free T-shirt, which would have saved me ten bucks last time. This year I guess I’ll just have to settle for the few pictures that I nicked off their web site.
